Open the offersSt. Barths is a French overseas collectivity of about 25 square km with a 646 m runway that only small certified aircraft can use, so most guests connect through Sint Maarten by 10-minute hop or ferry. Swedish from 1784 to 1878, the island keeps Gustavia as its harbour capital, with its luxury hotels spread across St. Jean, Flamands, Grand Cul-de-Sac and Toiny.
The 646 m runway needs specially certified pilots; arrivals come by small plane from Sint Maarten (about 10 minutes) or by ferry.
20 to 45 minute rocky trail or a boat from Gustavia; wear real shoes, carry water and a soft cooler, nothing is sold there.
Flat reef-protected water with trade winds December to July; schools teach from the shore near Le Barthelemy. Toiny is the advanced wave spot.
April sailing regatta (mid-April editions in 2014 and 2022); Flamands beach is a prime viewing spot. The Bucket Regatta for superyachts is in March.
Short walk to the 1789 Swedish fort ruins with views over the harbour and Shell Beach; also used for whale watching in season.
Walkable from town; Shellona serves on the beach.
The island’s best surf beach, with strong currents; the hotel above has a beach club on the quiet cove.
Le Barthelemy lends paddleboards, kayaks and snorkel gear; seagrass beds hold sea turtles.
Quiet southern beach; a local itinerary pairs a Colombier hike in the morning with Gouverneur at dusk.
Hillside Sibuet hotel that replaced the old Francois Plantation in 2016; the restaurant serves French classics with island touches.
