Humpback whales fill the channel between Maui, Lanai and Molokai from roughly November to April, and the Hana Highway winds through about 620 curves and 59 bridges along the rainforest coast.
The 10,023-foot summit; sunrise entry between 3 and 7 am requires a per-vehicle reservation on recreation.gov ($1, released 60 days and 2 days ahead) plus the $30 park pass.
