Open the offersAnguilla is a flat, 16-mile-long coral island north of St. Maarten with 33 beaches and a handful of offshore cays. It has no cruise port and no casinos, and its resorts sit mainly on Meads Bay, Rendezvous Bay and Maundays Bay.
Charters and water taxis from Sandy Ground run to the cays for snorkeling and grilled lobster lunches; Sandy Island is a five-minute ride.
A beach bar on a tiny island reached by a free flat-bottomed boat from the Island Harbour dock; open only a few days a week, so check before going.
Shoal Bay has a reef a short swim from shore; Little Bay is a quiet cove usually reached by boat.
Anguilla’s national sport since 2012: wooden sloops race most months, with the main season in August and the regatta in mid-March.
The island’s 18-hole championship course sits above Rendezvous Bay with sea views on most holes.
Local bands play in the village on Thursday evenings, and beach bars host music most weekends.
A 20-minute guided walk through a heritage park with more than 60 visible Amerindian rock carvings; book 24 hours ahead with the National Trust.
The island is small enough to visit several of its 33 beaches in a day; Shoal Bay, Rendezvous and Meads are the usual circuit.
Dive boats leave from Sandy Ground for reef sites and a set of deliberately sunk wrecks off the north and west coasts.
Public ferries cross to Marigot in about 20 minutes, making a French-side lunch an easy half day.
