Open the offersSt. Lucia is a mountainous volcanic island whose twin peaks, Gros Piton and Petit Piton, rise straight from the sea near Soufriere. The Pitons Management Area, about 29 square km of land and sea, was inscribed by UNESCO in 2004.
A guided climb of roughly 3 to 4 hours round trip; the lower half is easy, the upper half is a steep scramble. A separate hiking fee of about US$50 per person applies.
Guided tour of the volcanic crater followed by a soak in warm mineral pools; allow about an hour.
Shore-entry reef inside the SMMA with a look-but-do-not-touch rule; Zone 1 is where most visitors snorkel.
Tree-to-bar classes where guests grind cocoa nibs and mould their own bar on a working cocoa estate.
A 45-minute guided loop with an entry fee of about US$10 that supports the local community; suitable for children.
A weekly street party that has run for more than 50 years, with grilled fish and music from sunset; check current arrangements locally.
Catamaran day sails run down the leeward coast to the Pitons with snorkel stops; the coast road is slow, so the boat is the easier way south.
Dive sites along the reserve’s reefs and the drop-offs at the base of the Pitons, run by Soufriere-based operators.
A short climb to the fort ruins on Signal Hill with views across to Martinique on clear days.
Friday or Saturday morning at Castries Market for spices and a local breakfast of green fig and saltfish.
